Blumenauer Calls for "Reset," Announces Housing Agenda

Press Release

Date: March 17, 2022
Location: Portland, OR

On Thursday, March 17, Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), will release his legislative agenda and report for reigniting federal investment in affordable housing. His legislative blueprint, "Locked Out 2.0: Reversing Federal Housing Failures and Unlocking Opportunity," also describes how decades of disinvestment by the federal government in safe, affordable housing has fueled chronic challenges for Portland and communities across America. The report can be read here.

"It's time for the federal government to get back in the game and support the critical needs of people impacted by the housing crisis. We have seen record level investment-over $85 billion- in housing programs since the pandemic. But this just addresses the deficit created by decades of budget cuts. We can and must do more," said Congressman Blumenauer

"Locked Out 2.0" details solutions for five of the most vexing housing policy challenges:

Public Housing
Homelessness
Renter Relief
Equitable Homeownership
Fair Housing
"These problems won't be solved overnight," added Blumenauer, "but we are making progress in delivering funding to essential housing programs. I'm looking forward to working on my agenda with our state and local leaders, and dedicated housing advocates on the front lines."
